The Origins Of The Edwin Name

The Earl’s Court area was originally owned by Thegn Edwin before the Norman Conquest. A Thegn in Anglo Saxon England was a landowner ranking between an ordinary freeman and a hereditary nobleman

Later the lands were owned by the Earl of Oxford who had a manor house here, hence the name Earl’s Court.
